Life And Love With Marley
John and Jenny Grogan were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, 97-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry.

People love big, protective and loving dogs and that’s why there are a lot of german sheperd breeders. The German Shepherd is sometimes called an Alsatian because that’s where they originated in Germany. Many Germans still called them Deutscher Schaferhund because of their original sheepdog function but the breed is not very old and was really developed from a variety of sheep herding farm dogs in the late 1800s. In 1899 Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, was president of the first German Shepherd association in Germany. Since then German Shepherds have turned up all over the world and they came to the USA as early as 1908 where they were popular with the Red Cross, the police and as guard dogs.

How To Avoid Bad Doggy Behavior, And Teach Your Puppy Some Manners
A poorly trained dog can embarrass its owner and offend other people - or even make them feel threatened. Teaching your dog some manners is just common-sense. You did it with your children and your parents did it with you. If you had never learned right from wrong you would be behaving badly so why expect to be able to raise a dog without any coaching? He has lots to learn.

Teach Cats To Use Scratching Posts
Cats love and need to scratch. When they live in a house or apartment they will scratch whatever is available which usually turns out to be their owners best piece of furniture. Here are some tips to help teach your cat to use a scratching post instead of your favorite couch. Cats don't understand physical punishment. Punishment only breaks the trust that your cat has with you.

How To Grow Daphnia For The Aquarium
The benefits of feeding live food to fish in a community tank are many: live food will improve vigor and color, and more closely resemble the food found in the fish's natural habitat. Live food is easily obtained. Some drawbacks include the transmission of diseases or parasites to the aquarium, it is time consuming to maintain the cultures, and a lot of space needs to be devoted to raising live foods. The cost of equipment and supplies needed to maintain cultures is also a consideration for the beginner

Pet Memorial - In Remembrance of Our Special Pet Friends
Still remember that very moment when you first laid your eyes on your now, ever still most beloved pet? Feeling that very special bond between the both of you when you pick up that little fellow? It was sure such a sweet moment isn’t it? That little fellow just looks so adorable staring so innocently at you didn’t it? Little could we have ever imagine that, that little life would one day grow up to be old and eventually leave us. Thinking back now, I know you would certainly miss it even dearly. Please feel ashamed do not, should it even bring you tears. It’s truly alright to be feeling so. Losing our most beloved pet can be just as hurting as losing our very loved ones.

Tips On Setting Up And Maintaining An Aquarium
It's no fish story: New developments in the aquarium industry have made it easier than ever to maintain a home aquarium. With advancements in equipment and treatment products, aquarium owners can now spend more time enjoying their fish and less time worrying about maintenance.
Today, aquariums can be virtually noise-free. A new generation of filters mounted inside the aquarium is unusually quiet, since the motor is under the water. By hanging inside the aquarium, these filters enable the aquarium to be placed flush against a wall.

"America's Dog" Unleashed
If you think a day in the life of America's top dog is all catnaps and horseplay, you're barking up the wrong tree. That doesn't mean it's not fun, though. A beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer named Carlee has been wearing her crown well-and she seems to be having a good time doing it.

Flea Facts And Tick Topics
A pest-prevention strategy is all the more important when you consider the problems caused by fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Besides the obvious irritation of itching, fleas can cause flea-bite anemia and tapeworm infestation. Ticks can spread Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever to pets and people, and mosquitoes can transmit West Nile virus and heartworm disease.

Protecting Birds From Disease Is A Matter Of Biosecurity
Birds are the third most popular pet in the United States behind cats and dogs. While most bird owners take great care to look out for the well−being of their animals, many are not aware of how susceptible their pet parrots and backyard chickens and ducks are to certain diseases like exotic Newcastle disease (END) or avian influenza (AI). These diseases are highly contagious and can spread from bird to bird quickly with devastating results. In recent years, tens of thousands of birds, including both pets and backyard flocks, died in California and other Western states as a result of disease outbreaks.

Aussie Method Trains Any Dog in Hours, Not Weeks
While pet owners would prefer their dog's bark be worse than its bite, constant barking can be particularly biting to the ears-and patience. A dog that jumps up on people, is too aggressive, or does not come when called can be difficult to live with as well. That's why experts say behavioral training is so important-and that lasting training isn't about treats and physical punishment. It's about understanding the way Fido thinks and communicating in a way that establishes the owner as top dog.

A Mother's Warning: Protect Your Pets, Protect Your Family
You can protect your pets and your family from hidden dangers. Consider the case of Christopher Ronan. He was just like any other four-year-old boy-playful, energetic and happy. Recognizing And Preventing Animal Cruelty
We use kicking a dog as an example of the worst of human behavior-and with good reason. Animal cruelty harms the most defenseless creatures in our world.
Examples of animal cruelty include overt abuse, dog fighting and cock fighting, neglect and denying pets necessities of care such as food, water or shelter. Animal welfare organizations work daily to educate people about how they can care for their pets and how they can prevent animal cruelty.

Warmer Weather Always Means "Kitten Time" For Animal Shelters What You Need To Know About Adopting A New Pet
Warm weather is upon us and, for people who work with animal shelters, they know what this means: more kittens are coming. Spring is one of the more prolific times of year that cats breed and many shelters find that more kittens are brought in now than any other season-leading to overcrowding.
"Cats breed in the spring, bringing into the world thousands of unwanted kittens, many ending up in overcrowded shelters," said Annemarie Lucas, ASPCA Humane Enforcement Officer and star of Animal Planet's "Animal Precinct."

"Most of the time dogs and kids make great companions," says canine behavior expert Dr. Mary Burch.

Horse Owners: Are Your Horses Vaccinated Against West Nile Yet?
Though the overall incidence of West Nile virus has been decreasing over the past two years, the potentially deadly disease continues to threaten equines, with 1,341 new cases reported in 38 different states from January through mid-December in 2004. This occurred despite extensive coverage in the media, as well as the availability of vaccine for horses. Equine health experts continue to appeal to horse owners to vaccinate unprotected horses, as well as properly booster previously vaccinated animals to maintain immunity.
