(NAPSI)-Fire safety is one of the most vital lessons that anyone can learn, which is why it is an important issue to discuss with children. Now little ones can get helpful fire safety tips from their favorite purple dino friend…Barney! Through songs, stories and fun, Barney and his friends BJ, Baby Bop and Riff make sure that kids are prepared-not scared-if ever an emergency should arise.

The following Fire Safety Tips should be reviewed and shared with the entire family:

1. Keep the emergency number for the fire and police stations near each phone in your home. Also, make sure that kids-or babysitters-can clearly repeat your exact address and phone number when calling in an emergency.

2. Make sure your home has smoke detectors. Test them through monthly fire drills, and change the batteries twice a year.

3. Don't let your children play with matches or lighters-ever.

4. Create a family escape plan and nearby meeting place in case of fire. And remember the motto: Don't Hide-Get Outside!

5. If you do see smoke or fire, Get Low and Go, meeting at your designated family meeting place.

6. When cooking in the kitchen, don't wear loose clothing. Make sure children follow that rule and keep them away from open flames.

7. If a piece of clothing does catch on fire:

a. Stop. Don't run.

b. Drop. Lie on the ground; cover your eyes and face with your hands; and

c. Roll! Roll your body on the ground until the flames are out.

8. For more parent resources, fire safety information and activities, log on to www.barney.com.

Barney to the rescue!

In the latest DVD from Barney, "Let's Go to the Firehouse," Barney, BJ, Baby Bop and their newest dino friend, Riff, take a trip to an actual firehouse, where they put on a special fire safety show. The exciting journey continues when Riff and Baby Bop fulfill their dream to ride on an actual fire truck, and all the dinos help respond to a call to rescue a lost puppy.

Barney's "Let's Go" DVD series-which also includes trips to the beach, the farm and the zoo-captures everyday experiences to help preschoolers understand the world around them. Children embark on these exciting journeys with Barney while enjoying lots of fun, music and laughs!
