Aspects of Astrology

Unless you study astrology, you would be under the impression that astrology is all about sun signs. There are many other aspects to it than just sun signs and these must be given due consideration for the art of astrology to be meaningful and practical.

The Planets in Astrology

Ten planets are studied in astrology - the sun, the moon (yes, these are taken to be planets here) and seven others. The earth is not included, as we perceive all the others from the earth. The astrological chart contains houses and each planet influences the house in which it resides as well as the sun sign.

Saturn is said to represent the limitations of man and Jupiter, leadership and prosperity. Each other planet holds similar influence over the sun sign, as well as the house it rules on the chart.

Movements and alignments of the planets play a very important role in astrology. Different types of planetary alignments and movements will point to their ability to affect all aspects of life. To give an example, when Mars is in a retrograde mode, we will experience a lot of conflict in our lives.

The Astrology Houses

An astrological or a Zodiac chart has twelve houses and each one stands for some aspect of our lives, be it family, romance, career, etc. The interpretation of a lot of things in our life is done based on these houses and when a planet is said to move into a particular house, that will give us an indication of what kind of effect it is going to have on us.

Having said that only ten planets are counted, it means that there are two houses empty and this is because those two are the unimportant parts of our lives.

This could be interpreted as that house being one where you have already succeeded or perhaps something that is in no way as important as the other aspects of your life.

Sun Signs and Moon Signs

The Sun Signs

The most common astrological predictions are based on the sun signs. The year is divided into 12 signs or rather the sun sign that rules in that period.

This is what is most popular in astrology as we know it today and one is familiar with the common signs of Scorpio, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc. It is based on the sun signs that most of the horoscopes that appear in print are done.

The Moon Signs

The names of the moon signs are the same as the sun signs. However, the dates they refer to are different. So your sun sign could be Leo but your moon sign could be Libra.

The sun signs and the moon signs rarely meet but when they do, it could mean that the person is extremely clear and alert during that time. However, if it so happens that the sun sign and the moon sign are in opposite positions, then there are chances of conflict.

Very often, in serious astrology, the influence of the moon is given far more importance that that of the sun.
