(NAPSI)-Your home's heating and cooling system is a significant investment that will contribute to your comfort for many years.

You can protect that investment by having it regularly serviced by a knowledgeable, NATE-certified technician.

During a service call or annual inspection, remind a technician to:

• Check fresh air grilles and louvers

• Inspect burners for rust, dirt, or signs of water

• Check vent pipe and unit for obstruction, damage, sagging and loose connections

• Ensure that the blower access door and return air duct are sealing properly with no gaps. Ensure that the blower access door is functioning properly

• Ensure that the blower access door return air duct is sealed properly

• Check the return air to make sure there is a seal to the unit

• Observe the operating unit's vent system and performance

• Show proof of certification

• Set up a regular maintenance schedule to preserve your investment.

These tips are brought to you by North American Technician Excellence or NATE, the nation's largest nonprofit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians.

The U.S. Department of Energy endorses NATE for raising quality standards and energy efficiency. For a contractor with NATE-certified technicians, go to the Consumer Contractor Connection at www.natex.org.
Remember, when purchasing a new unit, select one with the EnergyStar qualified seal.
