Cutting Printer Costs

(NAPSI)-Sad but true: The most expensive part of owning a laser printer is not the cost of purchasing the machine but the cost of the toner. Fortunately, consumers can tone down computer spending by taking a look at their toner cartridges.

High-yield replacement cartridges for printers cost anywhere from $90 to more than $300 at office supply stores. The billions spent annually to buy replacement cartridges led John Galt to invent "ReChargX," a product that lets users refill their empty toner cartridges in less than five minutes.

The average savings using a refill kit over a replacement cartridge is 70 percent (and up to 90 percent). For example, a new Lexmark Optra S1250 printer "Marathon" replacement toner cartridge sells at office superstores for $255. The toner refill kit for the same cartridge costs less than $40, an 85 percent savings.

The ReChargX company started with proprietary toner formulas for a few hundred different printers. Today, they produce toner for more than 5,500 different laser printers, fax machines and photocopiers from hundreds of manufacturers. Each formula is specifically designed to meet or exceed the original manufacturer's specifications.

These refill kits don't just save you green, they help keep the Earth green, too. Americans condemn over 100 million plastic toner cartridges to the landfills every year. The "do-it-yourself" toner refill helps change that.

"Refilling is clean and easy to do," says Galt. "If you can refill a saltshaker, you can refill your own toner cartridge."
