Getting Around and Enjoying Cancun

Now that you have booked your hotel and flight for your vacation in Cancun, you need to think about ground transportation when you arrive.

First decide if you need to rent a car during your stay in Cancun. If you know your vacation itinerary you know exactly where you have to be, and when. Do your tours include transportation to and from your hotel? If not you may want to rent a car. In Cancun there are all the familiar car rental companies.

Did you know that not all car rental companies offer full coverage car insurance for your vacation rental car? I recommend if renting a car you always include the full insurance car policy in your travel budget.

Better to be safe than sorry. Old sayings still ring true. You never know when something can happen and if you don't have full car rental insurance, you could end up owing a lot more than your vacation in total cost.

Some of the car rental companies that do offer full inusrance policys for car rentals are: America Car Insurance, Cancun Car Rental and Hertz Car Rental.

Now if you don't want to have to deal with renting a car and getting car rental insurance there are plenty of ways to get around in Cancun, but it is something your should check out before you get there.

Whenever you travel anywhere it is very important that you get some knowledge of the area. You want to be able to navigate your way around the city once you get to Cancun. Taxies are a safe and easy way to travel, most drivers understand English and know all the popular tourist attractions in and near the city and how to get there fastest.

Traveling by taxis can get expensive depending on where you want to go and how often. I find it is much easier to take a taxi, and not too expensive to do once or twice a day. It saves me the trouble of renting a car and having to drive around in unfamiliar territory.

I also find the taxi fares in Cancun reasonable. Another fun and interesting way to travel in Cancun is the water taxi. You can find it is a fun way to get to another island or a distant beach.

An inexpensive way to get around Cancun is by taking the bus. The trouble with this option is that buses can become quite crowded, so it may not make for a pleasant trip. But for a short ride it's not bad at all.

If you do decide to take the bus you must remember to bring Pesos not America dollars or coins to pay the fair. Buses seem to go a little faster in Cancun than we are used to here in the states so stay in your seat once you have boarded.

You may not need to rent a car, take the bus or worry about catching a taxi, but it is something you should consider. You know how easy it is to get into the vacation mode and suddenly decide to do something out of the norm. Something new, fun and exciting!

Best to have rethought all your transportation options rather than come up with a great new idea and not have any idea how to get to it.

I like to arrive in a new place and get a local map so I can see where I am, where I am staying, and what is available to me to visit.

It is discovering new and interesting things about a new place, and getting to know it. Enjoying and seeing all I can in Cancun makes me feel like a part of the wonderful atmosphere of this beautiful resort.
