Making Your Own Christmas Wrapping Paper

Every year we buy wrapping paper and decorate our gifts with it, but it does get a little boring, doesn't it? It can be a lot of fun to make your own wrapping paper and it is a fun thing for your kids to do too.

They can make the wrapping paper to wrap each others gifts with, or yours, and Dads. Creating wrapping paper is also a special way of showing how important someone is to you by taking the time to make their gift look so special.

If you go to the craft store you will find an amazing assortment of rubber stamps to decorate most anything. You may want to use some ribbons, tiny Christmas balls, a pair of scissors, glue, and glitter.

Tissue Paper is nice to work with and comes in some really nice colors and designs. You can take several different colored pieces of ribbon or the same color as your tissue paper and tie them around your present.

Tin Foil is another creative and fun idea to use as wrapping paper. First wrap the present, then you can add a picture of you and the recipient of the gift glued to the middle of the gift to make it look like a frame. You can add a nice bow or a gold bell and some gold ribbon to a corner of it. The added picture will make it two gifts in one!

Paper Bags-no one ever knows what to do with those paper bags we all have stashed in the house.Do you have some paper bags at home? You can make some great gift wrap with them. Get out your rubber stamps, stickers, glitter, markers, paints and crayons to personalize and decorate the brown paper yourself.

Let the kids go and collect some leaves, tiny acorns and little pinecones, and maybe some very small pine branches or just some pine needles. You can use leaves just as they are or you can get some spray paint in gold, silver, or any color you like and spray them for some added effect. Your package will look so natural and it is so easy to do. The kids will love to help you and make some wrappings of their own. This is a fun and easy activity to do with kids.


You can personalize your own wrapping paper. With today's technology it is easy to come up with some great ideas. You can print some photos of the recipient off your computer, cut them in your desired shapes and glue them right on to your wrapped gift. You can put one on, or many.

If you have printed out a large picture, you can cut it up and glue the pieces together on the package just like a jigsaw puzzle. What a great idea for the puzzler in your family!


It is easy to use colored cellophane as wrapping paper that is becoming a popular idea. Why not, we use it for Easter and Gift Baskets all the time. It comes in many colors and you can wrap your gift in some of the papers you have made first and then give it a transparent but colored overcoat.

Cellophane looks great on a plate of homemade cookies tied together at the top with a bow or some curling ribbon. This works well with a cup or a bowl of candy or a small basket of assorted goodies.

Make a Curly Bow

Take your scissors and open them up so that you have one blade to work with. Place the blade at the bottom of the bow that is untied (sticking out) and pressing firmly with your thumb on the inside of the ribbon and your index finger on the blade holding the outer side of the ribbon, run the blade up to the top of the ribbon. You have just made a Curly Ribbon Bow.

Curling ribbon is my favorite accessory when I am wrapping gifts!! You can do so much with it from putting a few strands together and wrapping it around a package, to making intricate designs on your boxes with it. You can make cute little bows, nice curly bows, or giant bunches of curls for a spectacular look.

You can just go out and buy your wrapping paper, but imagine the fun you and your kids will have designing your own. It will be a special creation made with love. And that is the most important ingredient, isn't it?
