(NAPSI)-Love of country doesn't just happen. It has to be taught.

Thanks to AMVETS' annual Americanism Program, students across the country are learning what it means to be an American, while gaining an appreciation for the sacrifices of our nation's veterans.

Working with teachers in kindergarten through high school, AMVETS has developed age- and grade-specific activities that teach and inspire children about our nation's history. The program may also be used by youth organizations providing wholesome after school activities.

Winners of state contests will have their work submitted for judging at the national level. All national entrants will receive certificates of participation, while first, second and third place winners receive savings bonds.

To learn how you can help inspire future patriots, or to participate in the program, call 877-7-AMVETS or visit the Web site at www.amvets.org.
