Are you looking for some new and fun crafts to entertain your children during the Thanksgiving holiday? Here's what we do at my house to entertain the kids, and to help them use their imaginations making some fun Thanksgiving craft ideas for kids. Here are 5 great ideas my family always enjoyed making.

1. Turkey wreath--Is Any Home Complete Without One?

You can go to any craft or dollar store and buy as many wreaths as you need. (I like the straw kind, personally.)

Get some assorted Thanksgiving decorations.

Get some paste or glue

Put your plastic tablecloth on the table.

Then let your kids decorate the wreath by pasting the decorations on it to make a fabulous holiday wreath for your front door!

2. Thanksgiving Turkey Cups

With the Thanksgiving family dinner almost upon us, you begin to realize your going to have a house full of kids on the holiday. How will you keep them busy?

If you buy samll plastic cups and some markers, here is a good craft idea for you.

Give each child a marker and a cup.

Let them have fun while the meal is being finished.

They can decorate their own cup, they can put their name on it and draw pictures on each one.

Better buy some extra cups!

3. Make Turkey Placemats

Give each of your kids a piece of construction paper, and ask them to draw a turkey on each one.

When they have completed their drawing, put each turkey on another piece of construction paper.

Laminate the paper and you now have a new set of Thanksgiving Turkey Placemats home made just for you!

4. Pinecone Turkeys

Go outside to a park or to your yard and have the kids pick up some pinecones.

Take them home, and give them some construction paper and scissors. (only if they are old enough to use scissors, if not you use them for them)

Cut the construction paper into turkey feathers using different colored sheets.

Using some red felt, cut out the comb of the turkey. (of course, if you don't have red felt, use red paper)

Glue your Thanksgiving turkey together, inserting the feathers in between the pine comb leaves.

5. Thanksgiving Flower Pots

Go to your local garden shop or dollar store and buy the smallest size clay pot you can find.(these are usually very inexpensive)

a bag of potting soil

seed packages containing flowers, herbs, and vegetables

Decide what seed you will put into your pot, and write the name of that plant on the pot using a magic marker.

Put some potting soil into the pot

Plant the seeds

In a few weeks when the seeds have begun to grow you can take your kids to a local hospital or nursing home to give away their Thanksgiving pots as Thanksgiving gifts to the patients. Or you can give them away to your own neighbors.

Teaching your children to be kind and giving at this special time of years seems so appropriate! This is also a great idea for a brownie or girl scout/boy scout troop to use to earn a merit badge, and to help out in the community.
