Sometimes it can be difficult to decide where to go on vacation. There are so many different places to go, and in each place there are usually many hotel and lodging choices. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Cancun, Mexico is a great vacation spot. It is not too far, and there are many different things to do so you won't get bored if you want an action packed vacation. If your looking to relax and enjoy the beach, Cancun offers that as well. As with any vacation to a new area you should do a little homework about Cancun and see just what it has to offer you.

You may decide to go with a travel agency to help you plan your vacation. It may cost a little extra, but it might be worth the extra cost.

A travel agent can offer lots of tips and ideas to make sure your vacation destination if just the right one for you. You can also do the leg work yourself and though it may take a little more time, you will save yourself some money.

First, you will want to look into the hotels in the area. When you check out Cancun you will find there are many hotels and one of them will fit your needs. Prices range from high to low and you can easily find a nice hotel that fits your budget.

From the all inclusive Excellence Playa Mujeres, an all adult luxury resort to the much less expensive Carisa y Palma, which offers room with cooking facilities, there is something for your needs.

Reading travel reviews will help you decide if your hotel will be suitable for your stay. Of course you have any questions call a travel agent who is familiar with Cancun and ask them about the different hotels.

Online pictures can be a bit deceiving, but Cancun is as beautiful in person as it is in the photos. It remains a popular travel destination and you can be sure the beaches and activities offered are great. There are too many vacation choices and if a resort area is popular, it is usually because it delivers the vacation people are looking for.

You can always call or email the hotel and talk to them yourself. You can find out what attractions are near to them and decide if the location fits your needs. You can also ask friends who have traveled to Cancun about the experience they had, nothing is better than a word of mouth recommendation. When you book your hotel, always get a confirmation number, and make sure to have your receipt contain what your accommodations will be.

Now, as for getting to Cancun. You will need a passport, so if you don't already have one, you should get going. You can check online to see what the airline prices are, and what time choices they offer for flights. It is always easiest to fly directly into Cancun, and to make sure your hotel offers airport shuttle service. If your not renting a car, you will need transportation to and from your hotel.

When speaking to the airline representative make sure to ask if there are any custom restrictions concerning what you can bring into the country, and also take out of the country. You don't want to have to leave something behind after you have packed it for your trip, or not be able to bring something home after you have purchased it on your vacation.

Now how about meals? I'll bet your getting hungry just planning this vacation! You can check online and see what restaurants your hotel may offer, and what restaurants are in the vicinity. You may have a room where you can prepare some of your own meals, so check with the hotel about grocery supplies. You may be able to have some delivered directly to your room.

Last, but not least, you have to plan your vacation itinerary. What are you going to do in Cancun. For some people that is an easy decision. They are going to lay on the beach all day, relaxing and basking in the sun.

They are going to enjoy a delicious meal for dinner, and perhaps a little wine or the ever popular Margarita. Then it's off the bed only to get up the next day and do the same thing. But if that is not your idea of a great vacation, Cancun offers much more.

There are tours and water sports waiting for you. There are archeological ruins near by. You can sign up for a Tulum & Xel-Ha All Inclusive tour. This tour takes you to the ancient city of Tulum, once a major seaport of the Mayan Civilazation.

After you have wandered around taking in all the history, you will be transported to Xel-Ha, beautiful water park offering ecological and water attractions for you to enjoy. You can explore the inlets and underground rivers, ride the lazy river, or do some diving and snorkling.

Another ancient treasure in the area is Chichen Itza , which was the capital of ancient Mayan empire. Chichen Itza is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

You can explore the Pyramid of Kukulcan, the Feathered Serpent God, an impressive temple famous for its tombs, and the endless 91 steps. Each side of the pyramid has 91 steps that lead to a platform, or ceremonial step, on the top. If you add the number of steps and the platform it equals 365, or the number of days in a year.

On two dates during the year you can witness a special occurrence at Citchen Itza. March 21st or September 21st are the dates of the Equinox. At 3 PM the sun creates an unusual optical illusion show with the light and shading forming shadows into the shape of a snake that moves. If it is a wonder to us, imagine how drastic a reaction the ancients must have had.

Cancun offers a variety of water activities. After all, what fun is a beach vacation with out spending some time at the beach? You can jet ski down a mangrove channel into a jungle, or take a ride on Aqua twister, a boat ride that reminds me of a roller coaster ride on the water.

In Cancun you can scuba at The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef in the world. The water visibility is very good, usually 100 feet, and there is an underwater cavern system for those who like adventure. You can boat out to Isla Mujeres and enjoy a fun filled day with food, the sea, the sand and lots of activities.

As you can see Cancun offers everything you could want in a vacation spot. So get moving, it's time to plan your vacation. Now, hhhmmmm...what should you bring?
