(NUI) - Surf the Internet and you'll find more Web sites than you could visit in a lifetime. Yet people, young and old, continue to use the Internet to become more educated before making important decisions.

A recent survey of 1,630 online users conducted by Burst! Media found that the people most often go to company Web sites when looking for product, service or investment information.

"Companies have invested significantly in their Web site development for nearly a decade," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association.

"That investment is now paying off for the average consumer who has a direct source for a wide range of critical information. Web sites today are interesting, interactive and more user friendly than ever before," he said.

For eight years, the Web Marketing Association's WebAward Competition has offered Web site accolades in 80 different industries. Web sites are evaluated on seven criteria: design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use.

"Web sites that win a WebAward have proven they understand their audience and have built and maintain a Web site to meet those needs," Rice said.
