Stated very simply, astrology is the study of the influence of stars and planets on human affairs.

The stars referred to are the sun and the moon.

Throughout history, astrology has been used as part of organized religion, way of life and even entertainment.

Astrological Charts

An astrologer, when given the exact location of the birth, the exact time and date of the birth of an individual, will determine the location of all the planets, the sun and the moon and draw up an astrological chart.

This is the beginning of the study of astrology of an individual and is usually drawn up right at the time of birth of the individual.

The Planets

The Sun, the Moon, Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, Mercury, and Pluto are the planets that are found in astrological charts.

Earth is not taken into account, as it is from the earth that we view the other planets. It is also to be remembered that the sun and the moon are considered as planets in astrology.

The Houses

There are twelve houses in an astrological chart. Each house stands for an aspect of human life such as family, career, love etc. While there are twelve houses, there are only ten planets and therefore there will be two vacant houses.

Vacant houses represent those aspects of the individual’s life that need not be considered for this life, as it is believed that those aspects have been handled effectively in an earlier life or realm.

Sun Sign

Your sun sign is decided on by the position of the sun in the chart. This is the first aspect of study of the chart followed by the positions of the planets in relation to their impact on the sun sign.

Lastly, the moon and its position is studied in relation to the rest of the astrological chart.

Astrological Birth Charts

An astrological birth charts drawn up at the time of one’s birth will give an accurate picture of the original personality. In the case of charts drawn later in one’s life, due to many events having taken place in between, the interpretations are likely to be less accurate.

Interpreting the Charts

The basic and essential activity in astrology is the study and interpretation of the astrological charts to give a platform from which to predict the future of the individual concerned. Such studies take into account a number of astrological phenomena that have a bearing on the chart.

Predicting the Future

Predicting future events based on astrology is considered to be an art. The expert astrologer must not only interpret the original chart, he must also give due consideration to current positions and any events that might have influenced the individual from the time of drawing up the chart to the time of study and prediction. Some experts can predict or see in the past, life changing events using these charts.

There have been many instances of marking major events in history by astrological readings such as the fall of the Roman Empire. The September 11 aberration was indeed predicted by some astrologers before hand. It is believed that even the birth of Jesus Christ was marked by astrological phenomena.
