(NUI) - Being a grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, niece or girlfriend is not always an easy task. All of these women deserve to hear how much we love and appreciate having them in our lives. Therefore, the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation would like to remind all women to stay healthy.

In 2003, more than 375,000 women were diagnosed with breast, lung, colorectal or cervical cancer, and thousands more were diagnosed with skin cancer. The staggering numbers of women with cancer prove that it is important to make cancer prevention a top priority.

Luckily, there are ways to reduce the risks of getting cancer. By being active, eating healthy foods, checking their bodies for abnormalities and getting screened for cancer regularly, women are more likely to stay healthy.

Starting at a young age, women need to know their family history and discuss their risk for cancer with their health care professional. By being aware and adhering to screening guidelines, women have a better chance of living a cancer-free life. Early detection is key to providing more choices in treatment options and a better chance of a cure.

To help make education easier, the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation's Web site, www.preventcancer.org, provides information on the importance of family history, screening guidelines and healthy living information.

In addition, an informative publication titled "Living Healthy - for Life" is available for a $25 donation to the foundation. This publication provides practical, easy-to-understand advice, including the recommended cancer screening guidelines to help people live a cancer-free life.

Always remind the women in your life that it is never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
