Congratulations on your pregnancy! You may have found out from a home pregnancy test or from your family doctor. What you have to decide now is not only who your prenatal doctor is going to be but what type of prenatal doctor you want. Most women are not aware that there is more than one choice.

You can chose from the following types of medical personnel.

Midwives are thought to be from the 17th century but are very popular today. If you decide to choose a Midwife make sure that they are certified. You can never be too sure especially when it comes to your baby.

Obstetrician-Gynecologist or Ob-Gyn is the choice most women make. They are equipped to handle anything that may happen and can provide any and all tests that you will need over the course of your pregnancy.

Perinatologist. This is a doctor who specializes in pregnant women with special circumstances such as women over the age of 35. Women who have genetic disorders that run in their families and women with STD's.

Family Practitioner. This type of doctor generally helps everyone. They can help with prenatal care and can refer you to an Ob-Gyn.

Remember whomever you choose you can check on their credentials by contacting the American Medical Association.
