(NC)-With Internet usage at an all time high amongst today's children and more than 91 per cent of Canadian teens using MSN Instant Messenger, it's important for parents to review family rules on Internet usage as kids head back to school.

"A great way to help kids stay safe is to use all the services from your Internet provider, like Parental Controls, which allow parents to set up separate Internet usage guidelines for each child, using aged-based customizable content settings," says Charlotte Burke, Vice President, Consumer Internet Services, Bell Sympatico. "Parents can review sites visited, total time spent online and the recipients names of sent MSN e-mail or MSN Messenger instant messages."

Encourage your kids to follow these Internet safety rules:

. Keep personal information personal - even school names and where mom and dad work shouldn't be given out.

. Not everyone on the Internet is who they say they are - be very cautious about making new "friends" online.

. Don't open e-mails or attachments from people you don't know.

. Tell an adult if someone online makes you feel uncomfortable or requests to meet you.

. Share your frequently visited Web pages and chat buddy list with a parent to ensure safe surfing.
