(NAPSI)-Even though many Americans are doing what they can to conserve water, more must be done. That's the word from an organization of scientists looking for new sources of fresh water.
Experts say that even with conservation efforts, by 2025 more than 33 percent of the world's population will live in regions without adequate supplies of water.
Members of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) recommend increasing the available water supply by using nuclear energy to desalinate water.
"All of the technologies used to desalinate seawater require large amounts of energy in the form of heat or electricity," explained ANS member Ron Faibish. "Nuclear power can provide that energy without environmental impacts, such as carbon emissions, that are associated with fossil fuels."

Facilities like Diablo Canyon in California use nuclear energy to turn seawater into drinking water.
