We get around everyday, but we don't even think about how we go from place to place. We hop in the car to run to the corner market, and a dozen other close places like that. With the gas prices what they are, and even higher prices looming over our shoulder, we should begin to reconsider how and where we drive our cars. You may even be able to help extend the life of your car and save yourself some money while your at it.

There are many other ways to get from place to place without using your car. Even with the most fuel efficient vehicle out there you must be feeling the fuel crunch on your wallet. It may be time to rethink your mode of transportation for some of your chores. You can save a little money and more importantly, save some of the non-renewable resources of our planet.

I've been brainstorming and have come up with a few ideas to help all of us rethink our actions and our driving.

Walk. "What?" You say. Come on, you can take a walk down to the store or to the library. How far is the mall? This slight action on your part is not only great for the environment, but it is good for you too.

Do You have a Bike. Bikes are fun. Bikes also happen to be a good, easy way to get yourself around the neighborhood while getting yourself some exercise at the same time. You can attach a basket onto the front of your bike (if you don't already have one) and head to the market. Put your groceries in your bikes basket and it is time to pedal home. Aren't you feeling greener already?

How about using some mass transportation? The bus, the train, the subway, they are all waiting for you. If you live in the city and drive in traffic jams all day, it may be a relaxing way to get to and from work. It is most likely cheaper than driving too.

Ride Sharing. It is still driving and using your car, but only one car, instead of two or three. It is nice to have some companionship and conversation while your driving to work. Think of the money your saving by splitting the expenses of the ride. It is not only going to work that you can share a ride.

If your on your way to the gym, see who else is planning to go at that same time. Make one trip together with a family member or friend instead of you each driving a vehicle. It used to be called carpooling, and it is still a great idea.

Many consumers are considering buying a hybrid car or a flex fuel vehicle. These cars offer us a wonderful chance to be economical and kind to our environment at the same time.

When we think about making changes to our way of life, especially in an area as big as our mode of transportation, can be difficult. We are used to the way we do things, and it seems as though making changes will be hard. That is not necessarily the case. It may just mean a little more planning on your part. You should sit and rethink what your needs are and figure out a way to take care of several things at the same time, rather than making several trips to do so.

Take a test run on your local public transportation system, and see if it's much nice than you think. Take a walk and look around at the neighborhood your so used to driving through. You may see some pretty nice sites, or meet a few new neighbors. Try it out. See how it works for you.
