The thought of beginning a scrapbook can be overwhelming if you have never tried it before. We tend to make things much harder than they are, and it is the same with making a scrapbook. Relax! It is supposed to be fun! With the ever-growing supply list of scrapbooking accessories, it’s easy to fing the perfect accessories to make your book beautiful, and special. Use these five simple steps to make your scrapbooking easy:

Step 1: Gather Your photographs.

If you’re like me, you have photos stored throughout your house, some here, some there. Find all your pictures that are in boxes, drawers, and wherever else you stash them, Yes, all of them. Gather the photos into one giant pile. Aren't you dying to look through them and remember the wonderful times you had when they were being taken.

Dont forget the pictures in your digital camera either, you should start having them printed so you can incorporate them into your scrapbook. If you’ve been saving them on a disk, waiting for the right time to have hard copies made, this is the time! Don't forget any undeveloped rolls of film, you can take those to be developed too.

Step 2: Sort Through All The Photos.

Now that your photos are all together in one pile, you can start to sort them. This is the most overwhelming part of scrapbooking that tends to discourage people from creating their scrapbook. Seeing all your precious memories in one heaping mound can feel intimidating. Don’t let it scare you! You can concentrate on one theme at a time, say, your wedding or the baby's first birthday. This way you only have to organize a small part of your collection. If your like me though, you can't wait to look at all of them again.! Don’t let it scare you! This step could take up to a few weeks, depending on the size of your picture pile. So take a deep breath and dive in.

There are many ways to sort your pictures. The main idea is to group your pictures together by themes or dates. Some examples of different sort piles you might create are weddings, births, summer vacations, sports activities, school programs, holidays, family outings, birthday parties, etc.

Don’t worry about how many pictures you have in each pile. Don’t try to make rhyme or reason of your piles either. It doesn’t matter if you have more photos in one pile than another. Just sort your pictures by theme.

Step 3: Decide Where to Begin, Your Starting Point.

Now that you have orted all your photos , it’s time to decide your starting point. First, you should determine exactly what kind of scrapbook album you would like to make. Look at all your picture groups. Do you see some sort of overall theme? Do you have tons of vacation photos or wedding photos?

Think about the kinds of categories you can have to work with. If you have children, you might start by creating a scrapbook that includes their pictures from birth to age five. If your pictures seem to filled with photos taken while your family travels frequently, you might consider creating a family travels scrapbook and include photos and mementos from your journeys and vacations..

Step 4: Focus On One Page At A Time.

You are ready, at last, to begin creating your scrapbook! You have a scrapbook theme and a group of photos to include in your very first scrapbook. Try to coordinate your photos with matching page sets, stickers, paper punches, etc. Make sure they look nice together. They match or go well according to color. Make it look pretty. Don’t forget to write your memories and thoughts on each page with your photos to make it unique. Concentrate on creating one page at a time and in no time at all, you will have complete a fabulous scrapbook to keep your memories alive for yourself, your family and future generations.

Step 5: Celebrate The Scrapbook

Aren't you proud of yourself? Don't you want to share this wonderful scrapbook you have made? Well...Do it!! Have a special gathering with your family, to view the scrapbook.
Make it a fun occasion, to relive the wonderful memories of your life. I'll bet by the time the evening is over, everyone will want to make more scrapbooks with you!
