You often run to medical doctors or the drugstores each time you, or just about anyone in the family, get ill. Time and again you have to take the usual medications with many objectionable side effects.

Much of them work by getting rid of the signs and symptoms, but not the illness itself. Taking care of ourselves not only entails long periods of rest but our precious money as well.

Perhaps it is a good idea to turn to common kitchen items first to seek for remedy when we are not at all feeling that well.

Honey is a common item in most kitchens. But did you know that honey has more uses than just being a great sweetener? Many natural health practitioners actually recommend honey as a dietary supplement because it boosts the immune system. The immune system is an important part of our well being. Honey is proven to ease, among others, cough, allergic reactions and even sterility.

Apple cider vinegar, like honey, also boosts the immune system. Adding this to your daily diet can help lessen the chances of you getting sick. When you are sick, your body’s normal pH balance is mostly out of whack. Apple cider vinegar tries to normalize your body’s pH balance to normal, thus assisting in faster restoration of your health. Purchase the natural kind to make sure no unwanted chemicals are present.

Karo syrup is effective in relieving bouts with constipation. Taking a teaspoon of this will get your bowel movement back to normal. Prune juice is another kitchen item that can do wonders to relieve constipation. Try to get sufficient fiber in your daily diet by consuming green leafy vegetables. Taking plenty of water too will prevent constipation.

Diaper rashes are often brought about by your kids wearing their diapers for too long, especially when they are already wet. If they are wearing the disposable plastic kind, the chemicals they contain may also contribute to and aggravate diaper rashes. Other factors like consuming too much juices or foods your kids are allergic to contribute to having diaper rashes.

A common kitchen item that soothes diaper rashes is corn starch. Corn starch is as fine as powder and is unscented. Use it as a substitute for the usual baby powder and dust it on areas with diaper rashes, or where they are most likely to occur. Corn starch helps keep your baby’s skin dry, thus speeding up the healing of diaper rashes or any sores. It is much cheaper too than regular baby powder.

Aloe vera is a medicinal plant that you can grow in flower pots and keep around the house. Aloe vera is effective in easing minor skin cuts and scratches. It is also effective for healing sunburns, thus most commercial treatments for sunburn in the market today contain Aloe vera. Just break off a piece of the plant’s leaf and use the gel on minor skin cuts, scratches and sunburn.

Fruits naturally are packed with lots of vitamin C, which is good in enhancing your immune system. Vitamin C helps you in getting rid of several illnesses like common colds and flu. Stock up on fruits in the kitchen, and eat a lot of them or, if you have a juicer, drink fruit juices daily.

The kitchen is a nice place to look in if you want to try some proven home remedies when you or someone in the family gets sick. You will save on money and get a restful stay at home when ill.
