(NewsUSA) - There is nothing more maddening to a condominium apartment owner than to be forced to pay for someone else's energy use -; especially when you are away on vacation or an extended business trip.

Westcorp Properties has alleviated that problem for buyers of its 1,200-unit Calgary, Alberta, condominium apartment development.

The green builder is installing an energy-efficient Baxi Luna wall-hung combination heating and domestic hot water boiler in each condominium apartment suite.

That means the energy conservation benefits are placed right in the hands of condominium owners. In addition, the Energy Star-rated appliance will help the green builder secure LEED Building certification for the finished development.

Wall-hung boilers are common in Europe, and the technology is growing rapidly among green builders and environmentally concerned homeowners throughout North America.

The second-largest heating products manufacturer in Europe, Baxi has been producing and marketing wall-hung boilers for more than 35 years globally.

All Baxi boilers are CSA-approved, Energy Star-rated and conform to stringent criteria set under the Boiler and Pressure Vehicle Code of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Before installing the boiler in condo suites, the builder conducted a field test. The test involved replacing a forced-air furnace in a bungalow home, which was increased from 1,100 to 2,200 square feet.

Because the Baxi boiler also has an independent circuit for on-demand domestic hot water, the owner no longer needs a storage tank.

Together with new triple-glazed windows, the Baxi heating and domestic hot water system cut gas use and monthly bills in half, even though the size of the house was double its size from the previous year.

Because the Baxi wall-hung boiler is among the quietest of heating systems in the marketplace, the condominium builder was able to install the appliance discreetly in a closet space in either the master bedroom or family room of each suite.

Condominium suite owners enjoy direct benefits from their energy-conservation success, lowering condo fees and eliminating fuel costs when they are away on vacation or business.

"This developer has raised the bar for innovative green builders," emphasizes Mike Thomas, president of Marathon International, the exclusive distributor of Baxi products in North America.

"With green builders like Westcorp committed to energy conservation and environmental protection, we can build a better future for generations to come."
