(NUI) - If you are looking for a fun and enriching vacation experience, Hungary just might be the place for you. Hungary seems to have something for everyone, especially when it comes to the yearly festivals.
Of the many festivals you have to choose from, the Budapest Spring Festival is Hungary's largest cultural festival and includes 200 events in 60 venues. Performances of classical and light music and theater delight children and adults of all ages.
For opera lovers, the Miskolc International Opera Festival in June features guest artists who regularly perform at the New York Metropolitan Opera House, Covent Garden, La Scala and the Bolshoi.
Many of Beethoven's greatest works can be enjoyed in the picturesque English park in Martonvasar. These concerts are performed by the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra in July.
In August, as part of the Summer Opera and Ballet Festival, the elegant Hungarian State Opera House schedules galas in both the operatic and classical disciplines.
For more cultural enlightenment, the Jewish Summer Festival includes the Jewish book week, the Israeli film week, the applied arts exhibitions and the gastronomic week. These events are part of the all-arts festival that shows different aspects of Jewish culture and highlights Jewish music and dance.
For wine lovers, the Budapest International Wine and Champagne Festival in September features the best wine merchants. These merchants introduce themselves to visitors in the Buda Castle at the wine exhibition and market. There is a harvest parade and an auction of rare wines. The festival gives a comprehensive view of Hungarian wine culture, but it also offers culinary delights, concerts and exhibitions of fine art and photography.
In the Godollo Royal Palace where Queen Elizabeth grew up, the International Harp festival in October offers patrons a rare and treasured chance to see world-famous harpists perform with the Budapest Strings.
Every year on Dec. 30, the Gala Concert of the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra held in Budapest Congress Center is great for everyone who enjoys folk music.
At Europe's New Year's Eve Gala and Ball in the Opera House, guest stars from abroad and artists from the Hungarian State Opera House are featured along with a feast created by chefs from the world-famous Gundel restaurant.
In addition to these exciting events, Hungary offers the Festival in Baroque Eger, the Budapest Christmas Market, the Holloko Easter Festival and various Medieval or Baroque festivals held in many castles throughout the countryside.
