You know that half the fun of a vacation to a new resort is sightseeing and Cancun is no different than any other resort area.

Cancun has many beautiful and very interesting places to visit and learn about.

You will find that Mexico has a lot of history that goes back to pre-Mayan days and you will be able to find some great tour companies to introduce you to the events that happened at these ancient sites.

The historical aspects of the Cancun area are very interesting and you will be amazed at some of the inventions and tools the ancients used.

It makes you wonder how did they figure out how to do this, the ancient and the amazing things you will learn and some a little mystical as well.

A popular tourist attraction is Isla Mujeres. The island is a short, but enjoyable ferry ride away from Cancun, about twenty-minutes. This beautiful island, like the Cancun area itself, is rich in history and folklore.

The Caribbean style houses are fronted by streets made of brick. You can spend an entire day exploring the island. It is a great opportunity for some authentic Caribbean photos, so be sure to bring along your camera. You can decide to split your time between the towns and the beaches.

Isla Mujeres offers excellent snorkeling and beautiful beaches. You may want to rent bikes or mopeds to tour around the island.

As I mentioned earlier Cancun has plenty of ruins to investigate and learn about. You can get to El Rey quite easily from the hotel area since it located in just about the middle of it.

You might want to fill a couple hours in your day visiting this small local ancient area before dinner or clubbing. El Rey is the home of hundreds of iguanas, so this site is fun for children.

There are larger ruins you can visit near by. You will find interesting ancient sites at Chichen Itza or Tulum. These are ancient Mayan cities where tours will bring you to explore the ruins and pyramids. where you can find huge Mayan pyramids and ancient ruins of Mayan temples and other buildings. Chichen Itza and Tulum are usually all day tours.

Bus tours also leave from the Cancun hotel zone and take you into downtown Cancun, where you can find some great shopping. In Cancun you will find malls and shopping centers just like we have here in the States. The difference is the products.

Here in Cancun you will find traditional hand-made Mexican items like jewelry, blanks, hats, and toys. In Cancun, as in the rest of Mexico, you should haggle with the vendors over the prices. You will get a break in the price, and it can be lots of fun.

I am usually not a haggler, so when I first went to Mexico I did not do it. My young son was with me, and he thought it would be fun to go back and forth over the prices with the sellers. When I saw the bargains he was getting I too began to haggle.

I must say I did enjoy it and felt great about the savings I got. Prices tend to be more reasonable in the markets rather than in the stores near the hotel zone. So make sure you get yourself down to the markets to enjoy some friendly haggling and bring home some Mexican bargains.

If you want more out of your vacation in Cancun than just lying on the beach or eating some Mexican foods, not that those are bad, you will find the staff at your hotel more than willing to help you find tour options you will have during you Cancun stay. You will also be able to ask your fellow travelers what tours they enjoyed during their stay.

Before you leave home you can discuss touring with your travel agent who can make some inquiries and bookings for you. The more of the local area you see in Cancun, the quicker you will fall in love with the beautiful resort
