New Technologies to Stay Connected with Loved Ones

(ARA) - In today's oversaturated, technology-driven world, it would seem that staying connected with loved ones is a snap, thanks to all of the great new gadgets on the market.

Yet, as people have started to move faster with new technology, keeping in touch with far away friends and family has become even harder as schedules accelerate and demands increase.

In particular, women have always been the foundation of maintaining relationships as keepers of the family's and friends social fabric, but that responsibility is even more challenging as they juggle careers, families and -- time permitting -- personal interests.

"Going through life with other people is a better way to go, and, in particular, women need other women," says Liz Dolan, a member of the Satellite Sisters, who deliver a popular news/talk podcast for women.

"When it comes to navigating transitions, making changes or buying products, most of us rely on the experiential learning friends and family. Not every conversation will change your life, but any conversation can."

It's no surprise, then, that women say the one technology they could not live without is the phone, according to a survey by leading cordless phone manufacturer VTech.

A third of women ages 25 to 44 spend four or more hours a week on the phone for personal calls, and the majority use those calls just to chat and stay connected.

The good news is that phones, in particular cordless home phone systems, have come a long way from the phones of yore, providing women with a variety of ways to stay connected and informed.

Cordless phones are being transformed well beyond pure voice communications, with new technology features such as:

* Instant Messaging:

Instant messaging is no longer just for the computer with easy-to-use programs on cordless phone systems. Quick connections about critical moments of a TV cliffhanger or football game plays are much less intruding when you can pop a note through the phone vs. having to sit in front of your PC.

* News/Sports/Weather Information:

Some phones also offer Internet connections that will allow you to quickly scan for information you need -- whether it's the weather to know how to dress that morning or the score you missed on the sportscast last night.

* Cell Phone Call Answering:

Thanks to a technology called Bluetooth, cordless phones now can answer calls from your cell phone, meaning you don't need to stay huddled in that one corner of the house that actually gets cell reception. With Bluetooth, the cordless phone system actually connects to the cellular call and provides the call clarity and quality only available through land line systems.

Bluetooth technology also enables users to wear wireless headsets for easy hands-free conversations -- great for multitasking while cooking, folding laundry, playing on the computer and more.

* Customization:

Knowing that people want products they can customize to make fit their personal lifestyles, cordless phone manufacturers are offering a number of tools from design personalization to expandability of handsets for multiple rooms in the house -- along with sleeker designs to fit personal style.

Today's cordless phones are definitely not your mother's cordless phones.

With this new generation of tools, cordless phone technology has never been better for reliability, clarity and enhanced features.

In addition, many products are environmentally friendly, and consumers can look for models that feature Energy Star ratings and reduced packaging. For more information, visit www.vtechphones.com.
