Packing List for Your Cruise

There is nothing worse than not having packed the right clothes for your cruise. It is difficult to know what to bring, and how much to bring if you have never cruised before. You could always pick up what you need on the boat, if they have it, or at one of the ports you stop in, but this could get very costly.

First see if your cruise line offers you a list of packing suggestions. If they don't just use mine. I always use a list to pack with, and as I put something in my suitcase I check it off my list. This way I never have to say, "But I thought I put in the suitcase!" which actually has happened to me. There are so many details to remember before you go on vacation, and so many things that have to be done, it would be easy to forget a little thing, like your bathing suit. Or your passport, so just pay attention to the list, and make sure you check it off as you gather each item. Better to feel foolish checking off your list, than feeling foolish forgetting something very important.

I also like to pack some of my things in my husband's suitcase, and some of his things in mine. I have had my suitcase lost on an airline flight, and did not get it back until my vacation was over. If you share the packing space in each others suitcase, you can put the things that you will need two of (like bathing suits) in separate bags, one in each. This way if a bag is lost, your vacation is not.

I always like to bring a carry on too. When I get onto the ship, my luggage usually takes hours to get to my room. In my carry on I pack a cover up, a bathing suit, and a pair of shorts and a tee shirt. This way, I can go soak in the hot tub while we set off on our vacation. If, by the time we get back to our room, our luggage is not there, I can put on my shorts and begin to explore the ship.

You never know what can happen to luggage while your traveling, so try to be prepared for the worst, It will save you a great deal of worrying. You are away to relax and have fun, not worry about lost luggage.

You know you can add or subtract things on the list as you like, it is not carved in stone, it is just an aid to help you pack.

Most Important Items

1. Airline Tickets

2. Passport and Drivers License

4. Health Records (if you need them)

5. Medical Cards

6. Your Credit Cards

7. Travelers Checks or Money

8. Prescription medication

9. Prescription eye glasses

That is the really important stuff! Keep these things in your carry on. You do not want to lose them in your luggage, or not have them with you if you need them.

Ladies Wear

Bras and underwear
P. J's and robe
Shorts
Tops
Capri pants
Skirts
Formal dress
Sandles/aqua shoes
Sneakers/walking shoes
Dress shoes

Exercise clothes (in case you exercise on vacation, I do not)!

Clothing accessories like scarves, belts, pins,
A hat with a visor

Men's Wear

Socks/dress socks
Belts, tie clips, cuff links

A hat with a visor

Now the clothes part is done. You know how many days your going for, so you can figure out how many of each you will need.

Now I do like to keep a record of my important phone numbers, medical numbers, credit card numbers, just in case I lose mine, or have them stolen. This way you can report the loss before any damage occurs with your cards and information. I like to take one with me, and I like to leave one home with a friend, in case I lose the one I brought!

Other Stuff

My camera
(and I like to get an underwater disposable as well)

Nail clippers/nail file/tweezers
Razor and shaving cream (men's and women's)

For Him

Comb/brush

Deodorant
Toothbrush

Okay, now your packing list is done

What about the things you have to do at home?

Call the post office, ask them to hold your mail

Stop your newspaper delivery

Let your friends and family know how to get in touch with you

Leave important numbers with a friend or family number (credit cards, etc.)

If you have any questions call your cruise line and they will be happy to help you.

Some ships let you bring wine/liquor aboard for in room consumption.
Check with your line, and find out before you go to all the trouble of packing and carrying it only to find you cannot bring it.

Find out if your ship has a laundry or a dry cleaner on board

Check the weather for your destination on line just to check that you have packed accordingly.
