The Ultimate Alaskan Ski Vacation

Alaska is the one state which has pretty much remained a mystery, probably because it is so far away, and not easy for most people to travel to. But that is changing. It is said that Alaska has some of the world's best skiing, and the Alyeska Resort is one of the top ski resorts in the state. It has a vertical drop of 2501, gets and average of 631 inches of snow, and has a top elevation of 2751 feet. It is located in the Chugach Mountains on the South central coast of Alaska, about forty miles south of Anchorage.

Even though it is great skiing, you will not find this resorts ski slopes over crowded and that means no long lines to get on the ski lift. There is one cable car, and nine ski lifts. There are a total of 68 ski trails including beginner, intermediate and expert. There are about 1000 acres of land and trail for all skill ranges.

You can ski at night, which is so much more thrilling and fun than a daytime run. The Alyeska Resort has a ranking of number 9 out of the twenty-five top ski resorts voted Skiing Magazine, and not only can you ski, but you can see beautiful mountains capped with snow, hanging glaciers and the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights as they are called.

All this begins in November, and the ski season run to mid April. This is the area in Alaska that has the longest daytime hours in the United States. There are about sixteen hours of daylight during the month of April, but only seven hours of daylight in December.

You can also learn to ski here, or snowboard if you like. There are both private and group lessons. There is an indoor pool and a fitness center located at the resort. If you like tubing, your in luck, because the Glacier Tubing Park is here for your enjoyment and thrills. It also has the Alyeska Terrain Park for snowboards.

You get a wake up call when the Northern Lights are out. How great would it be to see them. There are Glacier Tours and Planes you can hire to fly over them. There are Whale, Glacier and Wildlife Cruises. You can even go dog sledding. Now where else are you going to be able to do all this?

The Alyeska Prince Hotel is the place to stay! It is a AAA rated 4-diamond hotel, the only one is Alaska. You can get a room and spa package, a room and car package and ski and stay packages. There are several different elegant rooms to stay in from a guest room, to a suite to a townhouse, to the royal suite. Whatever accommodations your looking for the Alyeska Prince has it waiting for you.

There are about 8 restaurants waiting here for you to dine in. Anything from a quiet, secluded romantic dinner to a night with dance music. Seven Glaciers is one of the restaurants waiting for you. This sits at over 2000 feet above sea level, and gives you panoramic views of the Chugach Mountains, and several hanging glaciers. You take the Alyeska's sixty passenger aerial tramway to get to this fabulous restaurant. And as it just going there weren't enough, you can enjoy meals that include Spicy Dinginess Crab Cakes, Grilled Elk Rib Eye, Alaskan Salomon, and of course Alaskan King Crab.
