Unleash a Flood of Possibilities When You Update Your Bathroom

(ARA) – The bathrooms in our home can be one of the most noticeably outdated rooms in the house. That pretty pink tile that’s cracked beyond repair. The faucet that shines a bright shiny brass, yet showcases some nice green tarnish spots. And, the tiny, neglected showerhead that has residue build-up in it from 1972.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could make some simple, yet noticeable updates to your bathroom without much pain and suffering? Starting in the shower may be the way to go.

“Showers can be one of the most fun areas of the house to update and customize,” says Jeff Pratt, vice president of sales for Danze, a manufacturer of decorative plumbing products including kitchen and bath faucets, bath accessories and showerheads. “There are so many possibilities in the shower that everyone can have it their own way.”

Stepping back even a couple of decades, showers were purely about function -- bathing and cleansing. A typical showerhead featured traditional spray streams that were extremely utilitarian. And, they showed very little styling or imagination.

But, just as faucets, fixtures or other decorative elements can provide a contemporary or traditional style in the room, today so can showerheads. Danze offers everything from a Victorian-styled ceiling mount showerhead offered in finishes such as oil rub bronze and antique copper, to more contemporary showerheads, including one that spins and another that features five adjustable “spokes.”

Throughout the past several years, the shower (and bathroom in general) has become a reprieve and a destination to escape the chaos of our everyday lives. Manufacturers have flooded the market with so many unique showerheads and shower systems to choose from that a homeowner can create a mini spa right within their own home.

So, how can you achieve that spa-like experience and update your shower? Here are a few things to consider:

* Choose a showerhead that fits your personal tastes in a bathing experience. A large sunflower, downpour or rain pan showerhead can be drenching yet soothing, while a showerhead with massage settings may give that added pressure in places you need it the most.

* Make sure you choose the right type of shower arm for your showerhead. Positioning the showerhead is important to getting the desired flow pattern and coverage. Larger showerheads work best if directly overhead, while smaller diameter showerheads will project their pattern out into the shower. Sometimes simply adding an adjustable shower arm extension will let you put the showerhead just where you want it.

* Consider installing a ceiling mounted showerhead if you’re re-plumbing your shower. These showerheads provide water flow directly down overhead and add a unique style to any shower.

* If you’re choosing a sunflower (or similar) showerhead, find one that offers flexible, rubber tips. These tips allow for easy cleaning and help to keep residue build-up to a minimum, always giving you ultimate performance.

* Add wall-mounted body sprays that give extra water power. Complementing body sprays with your favorite style of showerhead can truly give you that spa-like experience.

“Customizing showers has been an emerging trend throughout the United States,” continues Pratt. “Danze recently introduced a custom shower system that allows people to mix and match showerheads, handheld body sprays and wall-mounted body sprays giving the bather the ultimate shower experience.”

Another popular feature to consider when upgrading your shower is a thermostatic valve. This unique valve allows you to set the temperature handle and know that each time you start your shower, the water will return to your temperature setting. These valves also maintain the water temperature setting during operation, regardless of changes in your system’s water pressure or changes in the temperature of the water entering the valve. No more reaching down to turn up the hot water! And today’s shower valves are designed to eliminate sudden changes in temperature when water pressure changes suddenly (like when a toilet is flushed or the dishwasher turns on).

So are you convinced that your bathroom needs a little updating? Start with the shower to add new styling and create your spa-like experience and you’ll soon forget that anything else in the room exists!
