(NC)-For golfers, there's nothing like the feeling of booking a winter vacation with a few rounds also worked into the plans. And whether it's an exotic southern destination or a more classic stop in Europe, remember - your fun on the course will only come after you take care of the packing details.

"Golf travel is always special and a few simple packing tips can make it easy and even more enjoyable," says Barry Wallis, Callaway Golf Canada on-staff professional. "If possible, bring your own clubs, since the confidence and comfort level required to play your best is always more difficult with unfamiliar rentals.

However, the main thing people usually underestimate is the change in climate - whether it's much hotter or a little colder than expected. Comfort on the course is key."

We all have our golf bags filled with the basics for the local course, but here's some other things you may want to consider packing:

. Hands on: Always bring extra golf gloves especially if you are going to a hot climate - one may still be damp the next day

. Zip up: Remember to bring a golf-specific thermal jacket as temperatures can drop unexpectedly - even in a typically hot climate. With today's golf fashions, the jacket can often be worn in causal off-the-course settings as well

. Feet first: Bring an extra pair of golf shoes in case it rains

. Tap into technology: A battery-operated handheld rangefinder helps when playing an unfamiliar course

. Don't forget the basics: Sun protection; insect repellent; hat; and umbrella.

For safety reasons it is advisable to keep your valuables and travel documents with you at all times when on vacation, and a special pouch such as the Callaway Deluxe Valuables Caddie can come in handy.

It's an organizational pouch that keeps your items close at hand. It provides easy access to the main storage area and the internal fleece-lined pocket protects watches, jewelry and other valuables.

"Also key is investing in a quality golf travel bag to protect your investment and make sure your clubs show up in the same condition as when you lifted off," adds Wallis. "It's a good idea to leave your bag secured but unlocked, so routine airport searches won't lead to damage of the bag and the clubs inside."

An example of such a bag is Callaway's X Tour Cart Golf Bag Carrier, which comes with wheels, power pull handle and steelhead club protection. Inside details include zippered mesh and lining pockets ideal for clothes, dirty laundry, accessories and more.

The best part? A CG Tracker bag recovery program helps reunite you with your bag if it is ever lost. Check out www.callawaygolf.com/ca to learn more.
