(NC)-What's the best way to combat the effects of chilly weather? Check out these simple fixes for winter's 10 most dreaded beauty bummers from experts on this subject, Sunsilk (www.gethairapy.ca) and Vaseline (www.vaseline.ca).

1. Dark Circles

Whether it's the sign of a late night out or a look you've (unfortunately) grown accustomed to, dark circles under the eyes are a universal dilemma. The tannin in tea has been shown to reduce swelling and discoloration. Wet and refrigerate two tea bags before you go to bed at night. In the morning, lie down, close your eyes, and apply the cool tea bags for 10-15 minutes.

2. Puffiness

Rinse your face with cool water, which causes blood vessels to constrict and reduces swelling. Cold cucumbers, which are over 90% water, also do the trick. Try Dove Cool Moisture Foaming Facial Cleanser twice daily. It has an uplifting scent of cucumber and green tea and leaves your skin feeling clean, fresh and very hydrated.

3. Red Nose

The combination of blustery weather and the common cold can make anyone look like Rudolph. Gently massage Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on a sore nose throughout the day to soothe and facilitate healing.

4. Chapped Lips

Unlike skin on other parts of the body, lips do not produce natural oils to protect them against low humidity and cold winds. Use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or beeswax to soften and heal cracks.

5. Itchy Skin

Switching to a heavier body cream, such Vaseline Intensive Rescue Extra Strength Lotion, is a simple way to replenish moisture. Wearing non-irritating fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking synthetics like polypropylene will also help. Lastly, run a humidifier in your bedroom at night to combat the drying effects of indoor heat.

6. Dry Scalp

Reduce the number of times you wash your hair each week, as strong detergents and hot water will dry out your scalp. Use lukewarm water and switch to a mild shampoo recommended for everyday use.

7. Dandruff

Not to be confused with dry scalp, dandruff is actually caused by the fungus Malassezia. Dandruff typically becomes worse in winter, so use anti-dandruff products regularly during cold months to help keep itching, flaking and dryness at bay.

8. Split Ends

Wrap a thick cotton towel around your hair for a few minutes after you get out of the shower to cut down on blow-dryer time. Use curling wands, hot curlers and straightening irons sparingly, and be sure to switch over to new Sunsilk Winter Collection Conditioner every time you wash.

9. Hat Head

Before putting on your hat, apply new Sunsilk Anti-Static Mist to your hair. After taking off your hat, turn your head upside down and massage your scalp to reactivate the mist in your hair.

10. Rough Feet

Feet bundled in warm socks and heavyweight boots tend to perspire and then dry out. Use powder during the day to keep feet dry, and apply Vaseline Intensive Rescue Hydrating Foot Cream and wear cotton socks to bed at night to keep feet soft.
