Chances are that you will never hear your dietician tell you to cheat on your diet.

This is not a common phenomenon but at times, this may be exactly what you do need to help you learn good eating habits that will hold you in good stead for your life and not for the time being.

A flexible program just might be the ticket to either giving up the diet for good or actually sticking it out.

There is a lot of difference between giving up and giving in. Indulging yourself in a small detour from your diet is not giving up your diet but it is being flexible. But again this does not imply that you can give in twenty four hours a day because if weight loss is your goal then this is not going to help.

It is important to understand that at times you need a little leeway to live the way you want to and there may be rare occasions when you go off limits. This has been understood by people who are now successful dieters.

Sometimes the desire to eat a specific food is a signal from your body that there are certain vitamins or minerals that are required. This does not translate into a psychological craving but a need expressed by the system for nutrients that are essential for its functioning. Another reason to giving in is the fact that by doing so you are not allowing yourself to get bogged down in tension over the fact that you are on a diet.

Just make up your mind that you have to eat healthier and be fit. What happens is that both weight loss plans and fitness come under the aegis of “diets” and it automatically denotes giving up the food we like which in reality is not true.

If you allow yourself to have something in moderate quantities then you need not worry that should you give in once, you will give up forever. Then there will be no negative feelings of shame or disgust at not being able to stick to your diet because you incorporated the off limit food in to your diet schedule.

This craving component is generally not factored into a normal diet plan. The dietician will say stop this and that for good, what you have to do is figure out your own wants and fit them in to the plan.

If you are missing out on any essential nutrients, then trust your body to give out the signals and learn to read them and then allow yourself that little cheating so your body gets what is was asking for. It could be carbs or proteins even sugar.
