(NewsUSA) - Many Americans want to lose weight, and they're willing to drop big bucks for lost pounds.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the diet industry's now worth $33 billion each year.

But it's no secret that most diets fail. While Americans spend billions on products that make big promises, there really is no magic pill.

To lose weight, Americans need to create caloric deficits, eating less or burning more calories than they consume.

The problem?

Many Americans struggle to fit diets into their lifestyle.

A woman wakes up late, so breakfast becomes a calorie-laden latte on-the-go.

A man skips his lunch break, then binges on a fast food dinner. Some people cut calories, then feel too hungry or deprived to resist vending machines or office cupcakes.

But a successful diet doesn't have to mean hours spent sprouting seeds for homemade power bars or constant starvation. With a little planning, Americans can stick to a reduced-calorie diet.

Meal-replacement plans provide a great option for busy would-be dieters. The dieter knows exactly what they will eat for breakfast and lunch, keeping meal planning to a minimum.

Americans looking into meal-replacement plans should consider products that will keep them full between meals. One meal-replacement plan, The

Hollywood Cookie Diet (www.hollywoodcookiediet.com), asks dieters to eat specially formulated cookies for breakfast, lunch and snack, then prepare a sensible dinner, like eggplant caponata or roast chicken.

They even provide recipes on their Web site. The cookies come in three flavors -; chocolate chip, lemon and oatmeal raisin -; and contain enough protein and fiber to provide appetite satisfaction and prevent mid-afternoon munchies.

The cookies contain only 150 calories each. Replacing two meals with cookies helps dieters cut calories. On the plan, dieters consume up to 600 before dinner, fewer than half the calories found in a bagel for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch.

When choosing a diet, Americans should consider their lifestyle. Some might have time to pack a healthy whole-grain pasta salad for lunch, and others might be too busy for anything but the quickest meals.

Easy-to-pack meal replacers can be kept in purses or briefcases for emergencies, and might prevent hungry dieters from visiting drive-through windows or overeating when they do stop for a meal.
