Conscientious Citrus Cleansing
Citrus fruits like oranges, limes, lemons, and grapefruit are long time favorites.
They are loved not only for their piquant, tantalizing taste but also for their surprising cleaning power.
Commercially available cleansers contain strong chemical compounds that may adversely affect your family’s health. People who have allergies and respiratory problems may find these particularly troublesome.
The next time you have a difficult cleaning task, think of citrus’ strong cleaning capabilities.
Not only do you get the benefit of equivalent cleansing, citrus is also 100% natural. The organic constituents of citrus fruit, like citric acid, are completely eco-friendly and kid-safe. You can let your children roll around your newly washed floors without fear. They may even end up smelling better than bath soap.
Let us look at some of the more common cleaning applications of citrus.
* Make scrubbing your garbage disposal unit a breeze with a bunch of citrus peels. Just introduce the fresh smelling parings into the sink and turn it on with some cold running water. It is quick and efficient with no fuss.
* Inevitably, oily residue will build up on your cooking appliances and tools. Apply citrus’ grease-cutting power and watch the gunk melt away. Citrus is so effective it is being tapped for major industrial applications like degreasing the engine rooms of ocean liners.
* Concoct a multi-purpose cleansing liquid with citrus and vinegar. This vigorous elixir can be used for most household surfaces. A little in your laundry will make your whites sparkle. Soak some citrus peels in a large container with plain white vinegar. Wait for four weeks, remembering to stir occasionally. After this is done, use a sieve to remove the peels and dilute with water.
* If you love a roaring fire, try adding a couple of citrus peels. The crisp scent will make you an even bigger fireplace enthusiast.
* Lovely enamel cookware is prone to stains. To eliminate stubborn stains, fill three-quarters of it with water and boil with some citrus peels for fifteen minutes.
* Another way to take advantage of its grease-cutting skill is to put a used lemon in your dishwasher.
* Make your stainless steel implements, sinks, and faucets shine by rubbing them with lemons. Just let it stay for a few minutes then polish.
* Give hardwood furnishings a mellow glow by using a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice. Use a squeeze bottle, rub it in, and buff with a clean rag.
* Brass and copper gleam after a lemon juice bath.
* Bust clothing stains with some lemon juice. Put some on stained clothes or diapers and bleach under sunshine.
* If bathroom grime is giving you nightmares, a paste made from lemon or lime juice with baking soda and vinegar will scour the bad dreams away.
