(NUI) - Are you confused by the abundance of information on obesity and weight loss?

Currently, there are so many groups providing health information that many people can get lost in the sheer volume of advice. To solve this problem, the federal government has created an easy-to-use online resource.

Located at www.chid.nih.gov, the Combined Health Information Database contains thousands of summaries of articles, books, pamphlets, videos and other educational products concerning healthy eating and other topics that you can search by keyword.

A search for "high-protein diet," for example, turns up 24 articles in publications as diverse as Time, "Cooking Light," The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, USA Today, "Tufts University Health and Diet Letter" and "Healthy Weight Journal."

You can search for information about nutrition labels, gastric surgery, weight-loss workouts or whatever you wonder about.

Along with a summary of main points covered, CHID provides information to help you locate the full article, book, video or other resource.

Have questions about other health topics? In addition to weight control, CHID offers searchable databases for 11 other health-related topics. These topics include diabetes, maternal and child health, Alzheimer's disease, and alternative medicine.

For more information about weight control, healthy eating and physical activity, call the Weight-control Information Network at 1-877-946-4627 or visit www.nid dk.nih.gov/health/nutrit/nutrit.htm. The WIN Web site features a link to CHID.

WIN is a national information service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
