Everyone recycles their soda cans and bottles, their plastic and their cardboard today.
While recycling paper, glass, metal and plastic is great, there are other things that you can recycle as well.
For instance, you could take the clothes that you no longer wear, but are still in good condition to a resale shop or you can post items that you no longer need or want on www.freecycle.org for others to receive and use.
Using www.freecycle.org you list the items you want to give away, and people who would like them respond to your listing. You arrange a pick-up point, and that's all there is to it!
Some of the many things that can be recycled include:
1. Household items can be given to others to put to good use. You could also have a garage sale and make some money in the process.
2. Furniture is completely reusable unless it is past its usefulness. College students and people who are just furnishing their first apartment are happy to have donated furniture. There are also people who simply need a helping hand.
3. Appliances that need small repairs can be reused as long as the person who is receiving them knows that the item needs to be repaired.
4. Fruit that you did not eat before they went bad can be placed in a compost pile to be used in your garden.
5. People with new babies can always use good baby items and those who have children can reuse your children's toys.
6. Ink cartridges from your printer, fax machine and copier can be recycled at your local office supply store or Post Office.
7. Thoroughly cleaned pill bottles can make wonderful little storage containers for paper clips, tacks and other small items.
The point is that almost anything can be recycled or reused. This will help to keep stuff out of landfills while indefinitely extending these items' lives.
Herein pollutants are reduced and those in need receive our help. There really is no downside to reusing and recycling.
While it may take a little extra work to do this, it really is worth it to take a look around and see what you can save for another life and from the landfill.
