Getting ready for the holidays can be a fun and exciting time for you and your kids. It will help bring the family together in the spirit of love and giving. Tis' the season to be jolly, so have some homemade fun this year.
You can teach your kids how to make homemade cards, and probably do it with stuff you already have around your house.
All you need is some construction paper, markers, stamps, stickers, glitter, pens, crayons, any assortment of the about things will do. You can add a special touch by gluing a photo onto each card.
You can make a paper chain to decorate the tree or house with. All you need is some construction paper cut into strips, some glue and make loops. Your kids will keep busy all day with this!
It's easy to make homemade gifts. You can get empty jars and fill them with holiday candy. Tie or glue some ribbons or put some stickers on the jars. Seal them and tie them with a ribbon.
You can do the same thing with candles. If you have wrapping paper or fabric, you can cut them into circles, cover the lids of the jars with them when they are on the jars and tie them with a ribbon for a festive look.
You can make tons of cookies and let the kids help you stir the batter, bake the cookies and decorate them. You can put them in cellophane bags or cookie cans and they will make a great gift, if you don't eat them all yourselves!
Cut stars or snowflakes out of paper or fabric and make a hole to put some thread or ribbon through. You can hang them everywhere or you can cut a circle in a piece of cardboard and hand the shapes off of it with the ribbon or string to make a holiday mobile.
Everyone loves to write letters to Santa, telling him what a good girl or boy they have been this year. Letting him know just what special gift they are hoping to get.
Let them add a special paragraph about what has made them happy this year, and what they are grateful for. Decorate the letter with stickers, glitter, or markers. Seal it in an envelope and let the kids mail it!
You can have a special family movie night by renting one of the great Christmas movies like "The Grinch That Stole Christmas", "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Or "Frosty The Snowman". Make some popcorn, or get out some of those cookies you made and your ready for your movie.
Teach your kids that it is not only good to receive, but it feels good to give as well. There are so many groups out there who collect toys for underprivileged or sick children.
Take your kids out, let them pick out a special present for another child, and take them to a gift drop center. This will warm their hearts and help to teach them about charity!
