So many of us drive around during the Christmas holiday season to see houses filled with decorations. Why not decorate your own yard?
It is great fun for everyone in the family, and a nice time you can all share together doing something that will add beauty and holiday spirit to your neighborhood and make you feel happy at the same time.
Now, how should you decorate the outside of your home?
What do you have around the house that you can use already? Do you have outdoor Christmas lights?
First thing is to take stock of what items you have that you can use, and then plan your decorating around them.
Lights can be run along the eaves and sides of your house, and around every window if you have that many.
That old wicker basket gathering dust in the hall closet can be filled with Christmas Balls and put out on the porch, or filled with empty wrapped boxes so it looks like it is filled with presents.
You can put some garland around your porch, your mailbox, your railings. You can add little decorations to the garland, and some lights. It will look perfect!
Do you have a tree in front of your house? If so you can string lights around it, and if your lucky enough to have a pine tree, you can completely decorate it just like you do the one inside the house.
If you have a large front yard you can get a life size Santa or Snowman that will light up. The latest craze is the inflatable's. You can get one of those that looks like a giant snow globe, with the snow inside falling for effect.
There are also large animated Santa's and Reindeer too, if you really want everyone to look. Some of these actually have a sensor on them, so when people go by it will say "Merry Christmas".
You can put fake poinsettias on your steps, the real ones will die. Or little Christmas trees with decorations on them. Don't forget the lights with these little trees.
Do you have a sled? You can put this on the middle of your lawn and put some brightly wrapped gift boxes on it.
How about a sign that says Merry Christmas? Or one of those outdoor light machines that projects a holiday design on the wall of your home.
If there is no snow you can buy cans of it and spray it around the bottom and up one corner of your windows to make it look natural.
You maybe the rooftop decoration type who likes to have a Santa and his Reindeer on your roof. Or you could put that across the front of your lawn for an easier challenge. It is not always easy to set these up on a roof top. Wherever you put it, if this is a decoration you decide on, fill the sleigh with wrapped gifts for the full effect. It is the season of giving!
If you prefer the religious theme for Christmas you can set up a Nativity Scene. When you set it up, you can shine a spot light on it at night so everyone can see it, or you may have the one that lights up already.
Decorating your yard is such a fun way to involve everyone in your family in the holiday spirit, and a great way to share it with your neighbors, friends and family who will be visiting you.
Depending on how many displays and lights you set up, you may see lines of cars driving down your street to see your display. If you build it, they will come!
