Graham Crackers
Frosting Recipe This is the glue for your little gingerbread house
1/2 pound Confectioner's Sugar
3 tbs. Butter or Margarine
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1 1/2 - 2 tbs. Milk
Candy to decorate your house
Gum Drops, Square Licorice or Chocolate M & M's can be used for the roof tiles, tiny Candy Canes, little Peppermints,
A Plastic Sandwich Bag or a Pastry Bag and Tip
Scissors
Plastic Place Mats or Table Cloth, or a Tray, Construction Paper or Cardboard to assemble the Little Gingerbread House on.
Directions:
First make the frosting/glue. You just mix all the ingredients together until it is smooth and thick. If you think it is too thin a mix, just add more sugar.
You can use a pastry bag if you have one, or you can put your sugar glue into a plastic sandwich bag. when you put it in the plastic bag, cut a small corner of the bottom of the bag off, now when you squeeze the bag, the glue will come out. You could also just spread the glue with a plastic knife.
To assemble the houses you may want to give everyone a plastic place mat, a tray or use a plastic table cloth. You can even use construction paper or card board to make the Little Gingerbread House on.
Lay the first graham cracker down on your base. Squeeze the glue all around the outside edges of it. Now stick your walls up one at a time, pressing them into the glue on the edge. There should be a lot of glue there to hold it. If it is too hard for you to get the walls to stand up, get someone to help you hold them until the glue dries a little.
Your Little House should now look like a little box. Fill in the sides and bottom edges very carefully with more glue and let the glue on the floor and walls begin to dry and harden for a little while.
You can enjoy some hot chocolate now if you like!
Take your glue and put it all along the top edge of your box, or house. Make it thick because you are going to attach the roof now.
Make the crackers go on the house in a V shape, just like a roof. They will lean on the sides of the building, and on each other at the top. Fill in the top where the two crackers meet with more glue.
Then let the house set for a little while. This will let the glue get hard and make the house easy to work with.
Now you are ready to decorate your Little Gingerbread House. You can use your extra glue and drizzle it all over to make it look like snow on your roof and hanging off of your house.
Use the candy to make decorations and windows on your house.
You may want to cover some of the top of your house with glue and put rows of the square licorice or the M&M's in rows on it to look like roof tiles.
Now you can just let it dry over night and your Little Gingerbread House will be completed and ready to use as a Christmas Decoration, or you could eat it right away!!
But before you do make sure you take a picture of it first.
