Clay pot crafts are a great way to make Christmas decorations for you home and as gifts to give to family and friends. Kids can have lots of fun decorating and filling them with a plant to give away as a Christmas gift.home decorations.
You and the kids can make a list of the people you want to make the Christmas gift clay pots for and decide what you will decorate them with. This way you will be able to collect all the things you need to complete these projects before you sit down to do it.
If you have a relative or friend who is fond of sunflowers, you can find some pictures of them, and glue them on to a pot you have left the natural color, or sprayed green or yellow. This way the pot will be able to be displayed all year long.
Here is what you will need:
Small House Plant
Small Clay Pots (the plastic plant pot should fit into this)
Paints
Ribbons or Raffia
Wrapping Paper
Sticker
Scissors
Glue
Pictures
Stencils or Cardboard to make stencils
You can get clay pots at any garden center and they are usually not very expensive. Get pots that are small in size. These are better for giving house sized plants in. You can get inexpensive plants at your local garden center too. Get the correct size clay pot for the house plant pot to fit right into. This way there is no mess.
You will need some paint for this project. You can first spray the pots with paint from a can to make them a Holiday color, or you can paint them by hand. You may want to do this before you give the pots to your children to decorate, or you may let them paint them by themselves.
You can use markers, paints, stickers, rubber stamps and wrapping paper to decorate the painted pots with. You can use some raffia or ribbons to complete each pot by wrapping it around the pot and making a bow.
If you use wrapping paper, you can cut strips that you can glue to the pots, or you can cut out the designs and glue them onto your painted clay pot. This is quick and easy and doesn't require too many accessories.
You can always draw a design, like stars or Christmas trees on the pots and let your kids paint or color them in. Holly leaves and berries are another favorite design. You can even use a cookie cutter. Trace around the cookie cutter on a piece of cardboard, and there you have a stencil to use on your pots.
When the pots are finished let them dry completely and put the plants you bought right into them right in their own plastic pots. This way there is no fuss, and no muss for you to clean up. You don't want dirt all over your newly decorated pots.
Now you and your kids can set aside a couple of evenings or weekend days to enjoy making homemade Christmas gifts that everyone will love.
