(NC)-Santa Claus has always been a popular pen pal. Every year, children send him their thoughts and greetings along with, of course, the ever popular wish list! In fact, Santa is so popular he receives more than a million letters each year at his special North Pole Post Office.
For 26 years, Canada Post has officially helped Santa respond to more than 15 million letters from children around the world. Santa has received more than a million letters each year for the past six years, and 2007 should be no exception.
"Every year, Canada Post volunteers help Santa reply to those million letters," says Monica Desjardins, Chief Postal Elf. "And, we're told by the jolly old elf himself that these letters are the highlight of his day!
Santa tells us everyone at the North Pole loves to read the mail, look at the beautiful pictures the children draw for him and that Mrs. Claus insists on putting each one up on a special wall in the kitchen," Desjardins adds. Though Santa replies to each one, he depends on his postal elves to deliver the letters to him and send the replies back to the children.
Even Santa's computer is kept busy this time of year as many children write to Santa through his website at canadapost.ca/santascorner.
More than 11,000 current and retired Canada Post employees, affectionately called Postal Elves, help Santa to ensure that every child's letter gets an answer in the language in which the letter was written, including Braille.
Desjardins reminds all of Santa's young friends that it is very important to include a complete return address, so that Canada Post can deliver his reply. "Though postal elves are very good at tracking down some addresses that aren't included with the letter, it makes our job much easier if children remember to include their return address," she adds.
Children will also enjoy visiting Santa's website at canadapost.ca/ santascorner. This fun, interactive website gives youngsters (or the young-at-heart!) access to holiday-themed games and activities, crafts, kid-friendly recipes and very special access to the inside scoop on Santa.
Beginning November 19, Santa will be posting an online weekly diary direct from the North Pole, and on December 1, a podcast featuring Santa himself will be available for download. These two elements will give visitors a very special glimpse into the holiday hustle and bustle at the North Pole! Of course, children can also send an email to Santa from this site.
Children can write to Santa at the following address:
SANTA CLAUS
NORTH POLE HOH OHO
CANADA
Don't forget to include your return address!
