Want to have a fun time with your kids? Why not have a Christmas craft party. You can gather the children together at the kitchen table and make a snowman out of Styrofoam balls.
This snowman is very easy to make and is lots of fun. You can decorate your house with snowmen when your done or give them as gifts to your kids favorite aunt or uncle for Christmas.
This is a great craft idea for 1 or for 10 kids, so you can use it if your a classmother at school or at a Christmas party for your child and guests.
You can get all the necessary items at any craft store and they are inexpensive too.
For each snowman you will need the following items
Depending on how big you want your snowman to be you can get larger or smaller balls than are mentioned here. Just be sure to get 3 balls in ascending sizes.
2 1/2" Styrofoam ball
3 " Styrofoam ball
3 1/2" Styrofoam ball
several toothpicks
tiny black pom poms (or you can cut tiny circles from felt)
Orange chenille pipe cleaners
glitter
scissors
glue
ribbon, felt, or wool for a scarf (cut into strips)
a knife
(for the tiny poms you can also use black marker)
you may want to use tiny twigs for arms or toothpicks
Cut the bottom off the biggest ball with a knife to make a flat base for it to stand on. Don't cut too much off, just make it even. Mom you can do this part of the craft.
Stand the leveled ball on the table, and hold it while pushing a toothpick in to the middle of the top rounded part of the ball. Push the toothpick about half way in.
Get the second sized ball and stick it on the toothpick.
Push down gently to make sure the toothpick is stuck as far as it can go into the ball.
Take another toothpick and push it into the middle of the second ball, going about half way in again.
Now get the smallest ball, and push it on top of the toothpick, gently but making sure the toothpick is stuck as far as it can go into the ball.
This is your snowman and now you have to finish decorating him by making a nose, eyes, mouth and giving him a scarf.
The orange pipe cleaner is going to be his nose. Mom you can cut a small piece of pipe cleaner. Now that goes right in the front middle of the top ball.
Next you can glue the poms, make circles with markers, or glue felt circles where his eyes should go, his mouth should go and even down the front of the second ball if you want him to look like he has a shirt on.
Take the little strips of felt, ribbon or yarn and wrap them around his neck crossing them in the front and using a little glue where the strips meet to keep it crossed.
You can use tiny twigs or toothpicks for arms. Just stick one on each side of his body in the middle ball.
I like to put a little glue on my snowman and put glitter on him. I think snowmen look nice when they sparkle!
Wasn't that easy! There you have a wonderful snowman that was not only quick and easy to make, but fun. And he looks great!
