Wouldn't you like to make a gingerbread house with your kids this year? There are different ways to do this. You can make it from scratch, which could take an entire day or two to make. You can buy a kit to make a Gingerbread House. A kit will contain just about everything you need, but you may like to buy gum drops or candy canes to do some extra decorating.

You and your kids will have a great time making your Gingerbread House no matter which way you decide to do it. It is a wonderful time to let them help with the holiday baking, and be creative at the same time.

If you don't like to bake, the choice is easy...go and buy a Gingerbread House Kit. You and your kids can put it together and then decorated it. It is very easy to put the gingerbread house together. The kit will contain all the directions, and you just need to read them, and follow them. You will make the glue yourself, it is very easy to do and it is edible.

Gingerbread House Glue Recipe

1 egg white
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1-2 cups confectioners sugar

The glue should be thick, similar to regular glue. You can put it into a piping gun, and you will be ready to glue your house together.

Once your Gingerbread House is built, you get to have lots of fun. It is time for the decorating. Pick out candies you want to decorate with like gum drops, candy canes, M&M's, all of your favorites. You can use cookies too if you like, they can be roof designs, or walk ways, or just about anything you want them to be.

There are so many ways to decorate a Gingerbread House, and when your done reading my ideas, I am sure you will come up with some more of your own.

You can put trees up in front of the house, or all around it if you like. You can use pretzel sticks with little green candy leaves glued on.

You can put some food coloring into some of your edible glue and add color to your gingerbread house. You can outline your roof, your windows, your doors with extra splashes of colored glue placed around them.

You can make gingerbread cookies in the shapes of boys and girls to add people to your gingerbread house setting. You can decorate your gingerbread cookies to make them extra special. You can even write names on them.

Licorice candy shaped in squares will make a good chimney for your gingerbread house.

Do you have a pet? Do you want your Gingerbread cookie family to have a pet too? Just buy some animal crackers and decorate or color them with edible glue or icing. You can name your pet if you like.

There are many more ways you and your kids can decorate your Gingerbread House. Just use your imagination, and get to work. You can cut designs out of paper to glue onto your house, or you can use the cut outs as cookie cutters. Just provide the tools and equipment your kids need and let them have fun working on this family project together.

It doesn't matter if you make a small or a large Gingerbread House, you will be able to think of so many ways to make it your very own design. You and your kids will not only be having fun together as a family, but it will be a good learning process for them as well.

Remember Mom, get the camera out so you can make a photo journal of the making of your gingerbread house. It will be a great Holiday book to look at over the years, and to laugh and relive the fun of making your first family Gingerbread House!
